Dear Traveller,
In order to effectively create yourself, discipline is key; but discipline is best when grounded in simplicity, something I’ve discovered the hard way. Here are three simple steps to help you along your Way.
- Arise Early: For me, this is dificult so I can imagine how hard it must be for some of you. But the benefits far outweigh the initial discomfort you may experience when you see just how much time you have.
- Meditate for a 3-10 minutes so to begin “emptying your cup” (I love this Zen parable)
- Do Morning Pages. Meditation will have “loosened” the mental “gunk” but Morning Pages are the mind/soul equivalent of Heracles cleaning the Augean stables. Pour out all your thoughts onto 3 pages of paper and your cup will be empty. This builds your discipline, enhances your creativity and grants a measure of peace. Morning pages have had a profound effect on my life and I do them EVERY morning. It is not always easy, especially (and ironically) because I’m a poet and writer. I have to let the words spurt, rush, roar, drip and crash upon the page. As they are.*shudder* But I wouldn’t stop for the world, they are both necessary and good for the soul. Why don’t you try these steps out and then tell me how it worked for you in the comment section? Thank you again.
Yours upon the Way,
Shinken
